La Voiture Noire

With this one I wanted to pay homage to the Bugatti Type 57 Atlantic, specifically the chassis #57453 also called 'La Voiture Noire' which mean 'The Black Car' . While there are many stories as to what happened to this particular car, one of them is as follows: The car belonged originally belonged to Jean Bugatti (Ettore Bugatti's eldest son) and only a few privileged had the honor to drive it among them were Robert Benoist winner of the 1937 Le Mans and his team mate William Grover-Williams (winner of first Monaco Grand Prix).
Before the death of Jean in 1939 the car was headed to Molsheim, France to Bugatti's factory. But seeing the destructive path of the Nazis during World War 2, Ettore decided to move his cars to Bordeaux, France.
While the car left for Bordeaux it never reached there. Of all the 4 Atlantic's built the whereabouts of only chassis #57453 are unknown to this day. It could very well be hidden in some barn in France or could be completely destroyed or anything else in between. With an estimated values of around €100 million, it is quite possibly the most lucrative treasure hunt.

And then in the honor of that same car Bugatti debuted Bugatti La Voiture Noire in 2019. A hypercar based on the Chiron platform.
